Just like with clip-ins, it’s important to properly maintain the hair so you can enjoy it as long as possible. After all, it’s quite an investment! We recommend using mild, nourishing, high-quality products.
Which products do you recommend?
The ERA TUA Fresh Linen Daily Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner are perfect for weaves as well as your own hair! These products hydrate and nourish your extensions, leaving them soft and healthy-looking.
Do you use a lot of styling tools/heat on your darker weaves? Then the ERA TUA Repairing Structure is highly recommended. If you frequently use heat on your lighter weaves, the Color Protection is a great option.
Of course, there are as many preferences as there are people. If there’s another product you prefer that has a nourishing base, it’s certainly suitable as well.
How to wash your wefts
- Apply the shampoo throughout the hair (including the roots/attachment points of the wefts) and gently massage it in.
- Rinse the hair thoroughly, especially around the attachment points of the wefts, to ensure no shampoo residue is left behind.
- Lift the wefts slightly so you can rinse well underneath them.
- Next, apply the nourishing conditioner to the lengths and ends of your hair, leave it in for at least 2 minutes.
Do your extensions need some extra love? Leave the ERA TUA conditioner on for a little while longer to use it as a mask!
Always use a heat protectant (recommended: the Alterna Dry Oil Mist) when using styling tools. The weaves can be blow-dried, but always try to blow-dry the hair downwards to prevent damage to the hair cuticles.
More importantly: which products do you recommend avoiding?
We advise against using products that contain keratin, as they can make the extensions heavy and stringy. We also notice that Olaplex doesn’t always work well. With this product, extensions can sometimes feel different than expected. This is especially noticeable with clip-ins. Due to some uncertainty, we prefer to avoid this product. 🙂
Due to the gentle processing the hair has undergone, it is slightly more delicate. When using styling tools or heat sources, you may notice that the color can warm up slightly. This is completely normal and can be corrected with a purple shampoo. If you do this, we recommend reading the blog carefully to prevent the color from shifting too much.
SPF and Malibu C
It’s also advisable to be cautious with SPF or foundation that adjusts to your skin tone. When your extensions come into contact with these products (for example, around the neck or collarbone), a warm tint may develop. This is clearly visible in the photo on the right.
If this happens by accident, don’t panic. Malibu C is here to the rescue! This link contains a tutorial on how to achieve the results shown in the left photo.

Malibu what?

Malibu C! This small packet removes unwanted colors from your extensions. It can be used for: Over-processed silver shampoo and stains from sunscreen, as described above. Malibu C will not alter the color (which is great). However, it can make the extensions feel a bit rough immediately after rinsing. If you use a nourishing product afterward (such as Daily Moisture by ERA TUA), your extensions will feel as good as new!
Another good tip:
Braid your hair before going to bed. This helps prevent damage from friction. True beauty queens even use a “silk bonnet” or the “heatless curls method” while sleeping. But of course, you should do what feels most comfortable for you.
