(How to) Wash your 100% human hair extensions

Yes, you've found the perfect 100% human clip-in extensions, worn them a few times, and maybe even styled them. Perfect! And then... just like your own hair, your extensions might be craving a nourishing wash. In this blog, we'll explain step-by-step how to best wash them.

Don't wash your extensions too often

We recommend not washing your extensions too often. The guideline we give for this is one wash per 15 to 20 wears. Do you always use a lot of products in your extensions, such as hairspray? Then you may need to wash them a little more often. Only wash your extensions when absolutely necessary; this will make them last the longest.

Zascha hair extensions naturally have a dark color (Indian hair) and undergo intensive processing in the factory. Your clip-ins therefore requireproper care. The very best results are, of course, achieved when you use all products from one line.

Which shampoo do we recommend?

After extensive research and many tests on extensions, we ended up with Era Tua. Era Tua has different lines: The Colour Protection, Repairing Structure & Pure Volume. We are also very happy that we can offer a No Yellow to make your extensions match your own hair even better.

Stap voor stap

Now that we've introduced you to our favorite brand, it's SHOWTIME. Take your time, put on some music you can sing along to, and go for it!

Step 1

Wet the hair strand by strand with lukewarm water.

Step 2

Apply a small amount of shampoo to your hand. This can be as much as you like, but we recommend not using too much shampoo; anything you apply, you'll also have to rinse out.

Step 3

Take a strand of hair, and starting at the top, gently make rotating movements on the hair with your thumbs. Make sure it lathers well and work your way down. Do not rinse this strand yet, but set it aside for a moment.

Step 4

Take the next lane and repeat this step until you have completed all lanes.

Step 5

Now, carefully start rinsing the channels one by one until you no longer see any foam.

Step 6

Take your conditioner and apply it in the same way. Now you just don't start at the roots of the strands, but in the middle of the hair and work your way to the ends.

Step 7

Rinse out the conditioner section by section with lukewarm/warm water.

Step 8

Gently towel dry your hair but avoid harsh rubbing. This will cause your hair to tangle and become frizzy.

Step 9

Detangle the hair by gently brushing it through with a wide-tooth comb. Always start at the ends and slowly work your way up.

What's the best way to dry my clip-in extensions?

It is important to let your hair air dry. This prevents the hair from frizzing or drying out. Once you have finished rinsing your hair, you can pat it dry with a towel or squeeze out the moisture. It is important not to wring the hair, as this will damage it. You can hang it on the Styling Unit, Storage hanger or lay it on the radiator with a soft towel underneath. Do you want the icing on the cake when it comes to hair care? Treat your extensions by leaving Era Tua conditioner on for 5 to 10 minutes after washing.

Here is a little how-to:

Apply the conditioner to the mid-lengths of the hair, and work through to the ends.
Ensure that excess moisture has been removed from the hair.
Leave in for 5 minutes (or even longer!) and then rinse thoroughly.
