(How to) Wash your 100% human hair extensions

Yes, you've found the perfect 100% human clip-in extensions, worn them a few times, and perhaps even styled them. Perfect! And then... just like your own hair, your extensions might be craving a nourishing wash. In this blog, we'll explain step-by-step how to wash them best.

Don't wash your extensions too often

We recommend not washing your extensions too often. Our guideline is one wash per 15 to 20 wears. Do you always use a lot of products in your extensions, like hairspray? Then you might need to wash them a bit more frequently. Only wash your extensions when truly necessary; this will make them last the longest.

Zascha hair extensions naturally have a dark color (Indian hair) and undergo intensive processing at the factory. Therefore, your clip-ins do require good care. The absolute best results, of course, are achieved when you use all products from one line.

Which shampoo do we recommend?

After extensive research and many tests on extensions, we discovered Era Tua. Era Tua offers various lines: The Daily Moisture, Colour Protection, Repairing Structure & Pure Volume. We are also very happy to offer a No Orange and No Yellow line to help your extensions blend even better with your own hair.

Click here for more information on the different lines and what to expect from the products.

Step by step

Now that we've introduced our favorite brand, it's SHOWTIME. Take your time, put on some music you can sing along to, and go for it!

  • Wet the hair weft by weft with lukewarm/warm water.
  • Apply a small amount of shampoo to your hand. This can be as desired, but we recommend not using too much shampoo; everything you apply must also be rinsed out.
  • Take a weft in your hand, and starting from the top, gently make rotating motions on the hair with your thumbs. Make sure it lathers well and work your way down. Do not rinse this weft yet, but set it aside for a moment.
  • Grab the next weft and repeat this step until you have done all the wefts.
  • Now carefully start rinsing the wefts one by one until you no longer see any foam.
  • Grab your conditioner and apply it in the same way. This time, you will not start at the roots of the wefts, but in the middle of the hair and work your way to the ends.
  • Rinse the conditioner out of each weft with lukewarm/warm water.
  • Pat your hair dry, but avoid vigorous rubbing. This can cause the hair to tangle and become frizzy.
  • Detangle the hair by very gently brushing it through with a wide-tooth comb. Always start at the ends and slowly work your way up.

How can I best dry my clip-in extensions?

It is important to let the hair air dry. This prevents the hair from becoming frizzy or dry. When you are done rinsing the hair, you can pat it dry with a towel or squeeze out the moisture. It is important not to wring the hair, as this will damage it. You can hang them on the Styling Unit, Storage Hanger or lay them on a radiator with a soft towel underneath. Fun fact: We have the hangers in 2 sizes:
The 23cm, suitable for sets and flip-ins, and the 15cm. The 15cm hanger is suitable for Secret Wefts, fill-ins, and ponytails.

Store, Protect & Travel

Storing your hair neatly is just as important as good care. For this, we specially designed the Velvet Storage Bag. The Velvet Bag is made of luxurious velvet fabric and finished with gold details. The hanger is made of wood and has a soft strip integrated to protect the top of your extensions. This luxurious travel bag is definitely not superfluous. Travel and store in STYLE!

Do you want the icing on the cake for care? Indulge your extensions by leaving the conditioner from Era Tua on for 5 to 10 minutes after washing.

Here is a little how-to:

  • Apply the conditioner to the middle of the hair, and work through to the ends.
  • Make sure excess moisture is out of the hair.
  • Leave it in for 5 minutes (or even longer!) and then rinse thoroughly.

Speaking of Styling:

Before you start with a straightener or curling iron, we recommend applying the Dry Oil Mist to the ends. What's special about this product? The Dry Oil Mist is a care and heat protection in one! This delays the drying out of the ends, allowing you to enjoy your long locks for longer. The Dry Oil Mist contains 147ml, excluding packaging.

The Dry Oil Mist is free of parabens and sulfates, and protects hair up to 230 degrees Celsius. When you only apply this product to the ends, it will not weigh down the hair. What are you waiting for?

Alterna Caviar ANTI-FRIZZ Dry Oil Mist

Our extensions are 'Natural Straight', which means the hair is straight upon delivery and will have a slight wave after washing. All our extensions are made from 100% real hair, which means you can curl and style the extensions with a curling iron or hot roller set. There are truly a thousand and one different ways to curl your set, but also to style it. We have explained the most common method in this blog:
